We moved the coupon box to the cart and tucked it behind “Have a code?” — checkout completion lifted about 5% — but we auto-reveal and prefill from?coupon= for affiliate/referral traffic so partners aren’t penalized. With last week’s payment gateway security focus, keeping the field out of the gateway step also reduced friction. Anyone else seen better results auto-applying codes vs. revealing the field?

Quick example: we auto-apply eligible promos server-side and swap the field label to “Discount applied — change code” once a match is found, which cut coupon hunting and nudged AOV about 3%; caveat, it only held up after we cached code lookups to avoid API lag. For unknown users we keep a small “Have a code?” link plus “No code needed — sale pricing applied,” which calmed FOMO; Baymard’s take aligns here: https://baymard.com/blog/coupon-code-fields.

Instead of fussing with placement, we added a 24-hour ‘price adjustment if you find a code’ promise and a tiny ‘no code needed’ note at payment; coupon-site exits dropped about 4% and we didn’t dent AOV. @amelia_k88, have you tried this with loyalty-only codes? It came out of last week’s promo tools thread and it calms the urge to hunt without hiding the option.
