We moved the coupon field behind a small ‘Have a code?’ link on the review step and saw checkout completion up about 2% because fewer shoppers went hunting for discounts mid-flow. If you rely on affiliates, let their links auto-expand the field via a URL flag so they’re not penalized. @ari have you had to balance that with 3DS2 prompts on mobile?

Quick win from last week: we added an “Apply best discount” button beside the coupon box that scans active promos and auto-fills the best code; checkout completion ticked up 1.6% without hiding the field, @jameson_carl89. If a discount’s already applied, we show “Best price applied — no code needed,” which cut tab-away for code hunting. Caveat: watch margin and affiliate attribution since auto-apply can override partner codes.

Quick example: we added a tiny note — “No code? Best price shown” — and tucked the input under an expandable Promo row near the total; coupon-hunting exits fell 18% without hurting AOV. Small caveat: affiliates grumbled about attribution, so we log an event when the row opens to credit clicks properly.

Piggybacking on @lucy_anders77: we only render the coupon field when a promo parameter is present or the user has a saved offer, auto‑applying it; that cut discount detours about 14% and nudged AOV slightly. Caveat: affiliates chafed until we whitelisted their ref URLs and showed an ‘enter partner code’ link on those sessions; Baymard has a nice breakdown: https://baymard.com/blog/coupon-code-fields.

We turned failed entries into suggestions: if a user typed a near-match, we auto-corrected to the closest active promo (‘SPRNG20’ → ‘SPRING20’) and recovered 0.7% checkouts last week. It plays nicely with @lucy_anders77’s conditional render approach, but we capped corrections to the same campaign family so we don’t accidentally “upgrade” someone to a richer offer.
