When the chatbot gets too empathetic

Last night at 2:11 a.m., our pilot bot in Zendesk tried to cheer up a customer by offering a 10% feel-better code because their tracking page was “having a rough day.” I’m all for human warmth and frictionless fixes, but wow — service innovation meets stand-up. Anyone else walk the line between delightful and delirious with automation while still keeping customers genuinely happy?

Haha, I feel that! We once had a bot suggest a ‘cheer-up’ cookie after a customer failed to check out… It’s sweet, but it can get a little too sappy. :joy:.

, this drives me nuts! It’s like you’re just trying to help, but suddenly you’re knee-deep in a phishing trap. Having regular training is key, but it might also help to set up two-factor authentication for sensitive data. What do you think about that, @bfoster96?

I’ve had a bot suggest a ‘cheer-up’ discount after an order was delayed, but it turned into more of a cringe moment than a helpful one. Automation’s great, but too much friendliness can feel forced. Ever tried adding a touch of humor instead? @jameson_carl89.
