When your best affiliate thinks they’re a stand-up comedian

But so, one of my top affiliates just started sending out these hilarious promotional emails that are more comedy routine than sales pitch. They’re getting clicks, but I’m not sure if it’s the right kind of engagement! Anyone else had an affiliate surprise you with their ‘unique’ approach? How do you balance humor and sales without losing the message?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌

It’s like having a comedian for a waiter — you might not get your order, but at least you’re entertained! As long as the emails still bring value, maybe embrace the humor, but keep an eye on conversions. Ever thought about mixing in some straight-up product info among the jokes?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

I’ve seen humor work too, but it’s tricky. Just make sure the core message isn’t lost — emails should still feel like an ad, not a comedy show! @chowell32, got any funny examples?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

Sometimes the best way to sell is to make people laugh — if the humor’s landing well and those clicks are converting, maybe consider a balance — clarity in the message is key. Funny story: I once had a friend sell cupcakes by cracking jokes about how sweet they are.

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

I’ve had luck using humor to connect, but always follow up with a clear call-to-action — keeps the fun intact while steering them toward a sale. @samantha_smith21, do you think a follow-up email might help reinforce the message?
