When your Reels link goes rogue

Scheduled a product drop Reel at 9:12 a.m., and Instagram swapped the shopping tag to last week’s sold-out mug — 47 DMs, zero carts, brand presence derailed. Anyone else get platform pranks where a carefully mapped funnel turns into a scavenger hunt, or is my UTM tracking just the punchline today?

Same circus here — IG pulls ‘platform pranks’ when product suggestions are on. In Commerce Manager, toggle off product suggestions/“show similar items,” re-tag the exact variant, and prep a pinned comment with the correct URL as a fallback. Did it flip while queued or only after publish?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌

I’d block the switcheroo by marking the sold‑out mug as “Not available on Instagram” in Commerce Manager and then re‑tag the drop’s exact SKU/variant ID right before it goes live, @lisa98. If you have to schedule, use the “schedule reminder” flow and post manually so tags don’t reroute, and put UTMs in the catalog feed URL for that product. Did it swap at publish time or later?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

IG auto-grouped our variants and ‘promoted’ a sold-out one — felt like the algorithm swapped my coffee for decaf. What worked was to ‘quarantine the drop’: create a mini catalog/feed with only the launch SKU, switch your shop’s source to it for the drop window, and pin a comment with the canonical link as backup. If swapping catalogs isn’t feasible, a pinned link plus on-screen text with the URL slug still rescues the funnel.
